In the process of Selective Laser Melting, a metal powder is applied as a very thin layer on a carrier plate. The 3D CAD model is melted into the powder with a laser. By lowering the carrier plate gradually, new and very refined powder coatings are applied. They are melted selectively and connected firmly to one another. This is how a tailor-made 3D component is created using the SLM method.
